China's ancient traditions contrasted with vibrant contemporary culture will welcome the Year of the Ox at the colourful and exciting Launch Celebrations in Belmore Park.

Start the New Year with wealth, health and happiness for all the family. Enjoy the spectacle as lions and dragons come to life and red firecrackers scare away the previous year's misfortune. All this, combined with the sights, sounds and flavours of the Chinese New Year Markets make the Launch Celebration a unique experience.

The Chinese New Year Festival's famous Parade makes an exciting move to twilight in 2009.

Starting at dusk, Sydney's streets will be transformed with a stunning night time procession of costumes, lanterns, lights and illuminated floats making its way from Town Hall to Chinatown. Featuring 2,600 people, including 500 dancers, musicians and martial artists from China's Henan Province, the Twilight Parade will showcase the very best local and international performers. This dazzling Parade is like no other. Its an event for all the family to watch and enjoy.

Following the Parade, come to Cockle Bay at Darling Harbour to enjoy a special Chinese New Year Fireworks display in celebration of the start of the Year of the Ox.

The famous Chinese New Year Markets are better than ever in 2009, with more to see and do. Delicious Asian food and all the glitz of traditional New Year gifts will be on offer from more than 50 stalls.

In the activity marquees you can take a tai chi class, learn Chinese drumming or Lion Dancing, try your hand at mah jong, see how to make delicious Chinese food or create your own lantern to take home.

On stage, see the very best local and international Chinese performers presenting a mix of traditional Dragon Dancing, Chinese Opera, musical groups and contemporary performers for a unique start to the Year of the Ox.
